Week #5 Final push!
26 Jul 2019

After more than one month of hard working, Week #5 was already here, so the programme was about to finalize! But before that, we had a short but intense week with last global reviews to correct, polish and complete as much as possible the two minimal weights required for the final delivery. For a proper… Read more
Week #4 Homestretch
12 Jul 2019

At week four we all realized that, once again, the programme was reaching the end. It always goes really fast! Last week was completely focused on production: expanding attendees’ typefaces into a fully fledged family, adding more weight variants like italics or expanding the variations in other ways (proportion of the letter, optical sizes…). Obviously,… Read more
Week #3 Paper to digital
07 Jul 2019

The programme kept running despite the record-breaking heat in the city. Once again, the week began out of Le Tank. It was time for two new (and last) visits: Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal and Bibliothèque Mazarine. In both libraries, the attendees had the opportunity to look into a large selection of rare printed type books and… Read more
Week #2 Processing & definition
01 Jul 2019

The second week was exhausting, but at the same time very exciting for the attendees. After a week exploring handmade shapes and its variations, their personal project began to take form! The week started in Paris, but out of the classroom. We visited the François Mitterrand Bibliothèque nationale de France, specifically the Livres Rares department,… Read more
Week #1 Kickoff
20 Jun 2019

The week and the programme started with a general presentation by the team to the new fifteen attendees. Immediately later, it was the turn for the calligraphy practice. At the inauguration of TypeParis programme, humanist calligraphy and its letterforms serve as a kickoff for the students to understand how physical tools such as a broad-nib… Read more
Weekly #5 The home stretch
21 Nov 2018

What a mammoth task these students have taken on! Week #5 was here, and somehow everyone managed to polish and complete not only a fully-fledged typeface, but printed specimens and screen presentations, delivered to friends, family, instructors and classmates on Friday, the final day. The entire TypeParis staff are extremely proud of the efforts of… Read more
Week #4 Make it count!
25 Oct 2018

This week has really brought out the survivor in each of the attendees. It’s the white-knuckle week. Everyone is acutely aware that the end of the programme is rapidly approaching, and that much of their time toward the end will be spent printing specimens and preparing presentations. So this is the week to make it count!
Week #3 Digitising letterforms
06 Jul 2018

If we liken TypeParis to jumping into a cold pool, Week #1 is the initial splash, shocking and exciting. Week #2 you’re becoming accustomed to the temperature, stretching out and paddling around. Week #3 you really begin swimming laps.
Week #5 The final week!
25 Jul 2017

TypeParis has a funny way of bending time, making it feel as though 5 days have passed, instead of 5 weeks. So strange to think that it’s all over for another year! This week was intense and super fun all at the same time. The last #tptalks17 was a roaring success, and presentation day on… Read more
Week #4 Applying knowledge and beginning the end
18 Jul 2017

I want to start this post off by congratulating the entire class on their efforts up to this point. Everybody’s projects are coming along, and looking great. They are about to embark on the home stretch! We didn’t have any museum visits for Week #4, as we enjoyed Bastille Day, but as usual, we had… Read more
Week #3 Digitising letterforms and exploring new design spaces
10 Jul 2017

Week #3 was a wonderful week for many reasons, but a highlight for me was welcoming Xavier Dupré back to the classroom for a second year! Xavier is one of our core instructors, and his input is concise, pointed and backed by many years of experience and successful typeface releases. Welcome back, Xavier. The attendees’… Read more
Week #2 Foundation for the personal typeface project
04 Jul 2017

Week #2 was a big one! The pace has really started to pick up. We had a great time at the second #tptalks event, hearing Agnès Dahan & Mário Feliciano speak. Later in the week we visited the beautiful Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal. Monday 26th began with exploration of the design space—an exercise which is a… Read more
