Corazón
It is my pleasure to present the font I designed exclusively for Corazón Tequila, a brand that epitomizes both refinement and ruggedness, blending the essence of the city with the spirit of exploration and the wild west. Corazón Tequila stands out with its smooth yet strong character, and the goal was to develop a font that captures and communicates this unique identity.
The starting point was inspired by the timeless elegance of the Caslon font and the distinctive style of Western fonts. This design merges classic sophistication with a rugged, adventurous spirit. The main vision behind this project was to create a font that would meet all the brand’s communication needs, offering a distinctive and cohesive visual language. This meant combining elements that evoke a sense of history and tradition with modern aesthetics, creating a bridge between past and present.
The custom font includes a range of variations, from a refined Text, Bold, and Extra Bold for fine print and communication, to a striking Display Western and Semi Western font for branding and logo use. Each variation was meticulously crafted to ensure it aligned with Corazón Tequila’s brand values and visual identity. The refined Text variation is ideal for readability in body text, ensuring that every detail of the brand’s story can be clearly communicated. Bold and Extra Bold versions provide emphasis and strength, perfect for headlines and important messaging.
The Display Western and Semi Western fonts were particularly exciting to develop. These styles draw heavily from the rugged, adventurous spirit of the wild west, a core aspect of Corazón Tequila’s identity. These bold, eye-catching fonts are perfect for branding, packaging, and logo use, ensuring that Corazón Tequila stands out on the shelf and remains memorable to consumers.
Throughout the design process, I faced specific challenges, particularly during the interpolation stages. Creating a cohesive and fluid variable font family that transitions seamlessly from Text to Western styles required extensive experimentation and careful planning. The interpolation process presented technical challenges that demanded important design solutions, often necessitating changes to initial design choices. It was essential to maintain consistency and readability across all variations while preserving the distinctive character of each style.
Key design decisions were made to address these challenges. One such decision was to abandon half-cut drop terminals and revert to the original terminals inspired by the Caslon font. This choice ensured all terminals adapted well across both the Text and Western styles. Furthermore, extensive testing was conducted to ensure the font’s performance across different media and devices. This included print, digital screens, and packaging materials. The goal was to ensure that the font retains its integrity and visual appeal, whether it is seen on a billboard, a website, or a bottle label. This testing process also helped identify and resolve any issues related to the interpolation process.
In conclusion, designing this font for Corazón Tequila was a rewarding and challenging endeavor. The result is a versatile, distinctive font family that captures the essence of Corazón Tequila’s brand identity. It has been a blast designing this font and creating a visual identity for Corazón Tequila, blending the timeless elegance of classic fonts with the bold spirit of the wild west.
