Third TPTalks of 2019! Although the record-breaking heat in Paris, we all meet up at Le Tank again. Kristine Arth, TypeParis alumni and founder of Lobster Phone studio was the facilitator the talk. Once more, the audience was keen on listening Andrea Tinnes and TypeParis founders and core instructors Jean François Porchez and Mathieu Réguer.
Andrea, a German type designer, typographer and educator, came from Berlin the day before the talk to be ready for the type critic session with TypeParis attendees. Tinnes is focused on client-based as well as self-initiated projects. Through her own label, typecuts (founded in 2004), she publishes as well as promotes her typefaces and typographic projects.
Her inspiring and pedagogic talk was completely aimed at TypeParis attendees. And it was a complete success not only for them, but for the rest of the public. She gave all kinds of details about her creative process when designing a typeface.
After the break, it was Réguer and Porchez time. They went little by little explaining to the audience the reason why TypeParis was found, its origins in French type design tradition and how they established the compacted programme contents. They also talked about the main objectives of the course and how they are always trying to improve both the organisation and schedule in order to make work easier for the students.
As a curiosity, for the current attendees the most exciting part was when Mathieu and Jean François showed few screenshots of the programme “backstage”: a tiny detail of the exhaustive report work the instructors do during the five weeks so as to make sure each participant accomplish the program goals.
