This is the shortest part of the program, but also probably the busiest. It brings together the final reviews and checks to fix, refine, and complete everything needed for the last submission. High temperatures and having worked hard for over a month mean students are starting to feel tired. But their drive and excitement to finish their typefaces give them the energy to keep going on their great projects!
Now is time to think about the Presentation Day. This special event will happen in Paris next Friday, July 11, in the afternoon. Remember, everyone interested can come! You just need to register here. We hope to see you all there!
Getting Ready for the End
This brief week began with the usual meeting where there was a full review of all projects to give general feedback to all students before they went back to work on their own. The main goal of this fourth phase is to turn every typeface into a complete family, expanding each typeface into a fully fledged family.
With help from instructors Malou Verlomme, Julie Soudanne, Jean François Porchez, Mathieu Réguer and Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer, the group focused on adding more language support to their typefaces, designing alternate characters and ligatures and creating different versions like italics, condensed, optical sizes, or other specific designs for their personal projects.

Final Guest Critic: Albert-Jan Pool
This edition’s final guest critic was Albert-Jan Pool, Dutch type designer. Pool’s visit proved incredibly helpful for our attendees. He provided invaluable assistance, helping them to resolve last-minute issues with both their main typeface weights and their various family options —whether related to weight or style. Beyond immediate fixes, he also sparked new ideas, inspiring attendees with suggestions for improvements they could apply to their work in the future, even after TypeParis Summer25 concludes. He finished with his presentation in which he retraced his adventure from his first moments at TypeMedia in the 80s, which made us understand the transformation of type designer profession. A big thank you, Albert-Jan, for your visit!

Completing and Refininig Main Weights
Later on the same week, it was time to check all the requirements for the final delivery of every typeface family. We focused on making small adjustments to perfect each main typeface for all diverse projects. Even though we've talked about spacing from the very start of the program, and students have worked on it for weeks, it’s during this next-to-last stage that we have a special session to fix and improve the spacing for all the families. At the end of the week, all the attendees had all the cards in hand to complete their type project by the next session on July 8, 2025 for the final week.
Advanced Digital Workflow with Glyphs
We felt fortunate to still have Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer, the Glyphs co-founder, with us in the classroom every day. Rainer led several very important sessions: one on Composites and Components, another just on spacing, and a third on interpolation, multiple masters, and variable fonts. Once again, we want to thank him for his dedication, excitement, and passion while teaching at the TypeParis Summer programme.
Do not forget to read our updates on the next, and final, part of the programme. TypeParis Summer25 is now almost finished!
