We reach phase 4, which allows us to discover the type families that were still in the project state the previous week. This moment is very exciting because the skills acquired over the weeks are revealed in each attendee typeface project. The motivation and excitement of completing fonts give attendees an incredible energy to keep carrying out their amazing type families!
It is the time to start thinking of the awaited Presentation Day, which will take place next Friday 10 July 2026, in the afternoon. Do remember it is open to everyone who is interested! You just need to register yourself here. Unique chance to get the type specimens created by our attendees.
The team for the phase 4 includes (by order of appearance) Greg Lindy, Jean François Porchez, Mathieu Réguer, Léo Guibert, Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer. We were also thrilled to host Léon Hugues as the last type critic for the TypeParis Summer26 edition. Enjoy the fourth report below:
The mission of this phase 4 is to expand every typeface into a fully fledged family. We started it with a global review on the first day of the week, which allowed everyone to take stock of the progress of the various type families. This kind of meeting is a moment of strong motivation, because everyone wants to give the best of themselves.
The beginning of the week was devoted to the improvement of the main typeface, which also allows for better consideration of the font additions: the creative master and the black master. Diacritics and punctuation completion. While the projects were progressing over the days, the participants also worked on their italics.
The chance to have the greatest Glyphs application expert by our side
We have taken advantage of the last week that we have Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer, the Glyphs’ co-founder, with us every day in the classroom. Rainer has given us several crucial sessions: Composite-component, spacing using Glyphs tools, interpolation techniques, multiple masters, variable fonts, OpenType features. As every year, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to him for unwavering dedication, infectious enthusiasm, and passion as a Glyph app instructor at the TypeParis Summer programme.
Optimisation of individual follow-up thanks to enhanced supervision
The support of the instructors is even more fundamental during this phase. During the TypeParis Summer programme, the attendees have the chance to have two instructors in parallel for each session, which allows everyone to have a personalised feedback, sometimes two in the session.
Because even if some aspects of design and production require global explanations for the entire group, as during the first phases, the most important thing during phase 4 remains individual monitoring, in order to provide to attendees the most relevant feedback for each typeface family.

Last type guest critic: Léon Hugues
We have had the pleasure of hosting the French type designer Léon Hugues as the last of the four guest critics of this edition. Léon has been immensely helpful to the attendees. He has helped them not only with their main weight typeface but also with their family variants. He ended his day with the presentation of some of his custom font projects for Amazon, Call of Duty, Deezer, and others. The discussion that followed was very enlightening about the reality of the typographic community, its economy, and mode of operation. He was also a speaker at Now26!

Main weight completion and fine-tuning
On this exciting end of phase 4 of our programme, we’ve been busy reviewing the requirements for the final delivery of all the typeface families. We’ve been giving each of the thirteen main typefaces a final polish, making sure they’re perfect. We’ll also be having special sessions where we can discuss each attendee’s goals and make sure they’re fully supported. Because each project is unique, and each participant has their own motivations, it’s our job as instructors to make sure everyone feels confident and can give their best. Let’s do this!
“The most important thing during phase 4 remains individual monitoring, in order to provide to attendees the most relevant feedback for each typeface family.”

We’ve reached the end of Phase 4!
Phase 5 will be dedicated to the finalisation of their type project, the design and production of the type specimen, and the design of their on-screen presentation, which will take place on Friday 10 June 2026. An important moment, which will close six weeks of an incredible adventure. Six weeks that will have allowed each attendee to learn typeface design, some joining TypeParis Summer26 without any experience, others with some typefaces to their credit. Next Friday we will discover the final fonts, and they will distribute their type specimens to the public present.
Don’t forget to check out the next and final Phase 5 post. TypeParis Summer26 is almost done!
