Six weeks have flown by, and TypeParis Summer26 is finally over! The closing phase of the programme focussed on finalising global reviews, polishing, and completing all typeface families. It also involved designing specimens and preparing final presentations for these projects. Of course, as is tradition, the programme concluded with a well-deserved farewell party.
The team for the phase 5 includes (by order of appearance) Greg Lindy, Jean François Porchez, Rainer Erich Scheichelbauer, Léo Guibert, Gina Serret, Mathieu Réguer. Enjoy the Fifth report below:
The last phase is a special moment because the typeface families become functional entities. Participants gained in speed and precision, and know-how. As a result, the first meeting of the last phase was magical. We discovered the breadth of the projects. Instructors have been incredibly impressed by the fulfilment of designing typefaces in such a short time. Just six weeks ago, many participants had not practised calligraphy, or even opened font design software like Glyphs.
An incredible quantity of variants of weights, widths, and italics were presented. This year, not only did everyone have italics, but very beautiful compressed and extended widths appeared.
Final stages
The following days were dedicated to the last details, including spacing optimisations, additions of glyph variants, swashes and all these add-ons that make the difference. The to-dos list included:
- Type families delivered including source files, functional fonts.
- Type setting according to the official template that allows all typefaces to be compared in a rigorous way.
- Design of the type specimen that will be printed and distributed on the last day.
- Writing the text presentation of the type project.
- Design of the presentation that will be broadcast on Friday 10 July 2026, of which extracts are presented on each page of the typefaces in the attendee section.

Thirteen typefaces
The thirteen TypeParis Summer26 type families are now published on our website. You will be able to understand the process for each type project, visualise each font family, and also see the printed specimens designed by the participants. As we have been doing for years, at the end of the final presentation, instructors meet with a guest type designer to honour together specific projects. This year, our guest was Jérémie Hornus, founder of U+ Type, then previously of Black Foundry.
