Tips: Prepare in yourself in advance the application period in order to build the portfolio that will allow you to be selected in 2027.
You will have to prepare a A4 sized PDF named that is no larger than 12 MB. The PDF needs to include the following two sections for Foundation and Expert levels: Portfolio and Curriculum-résumé, see FAQ.
After 10 years in Paris, we reinvent our type design programme. We go from 6 weeks to 3 weeks, while maintaining the fundamentals that make TypeParis’ reputation. The course will take place in Menorca, Spain for the first time. In 2027, we offer two levels, Foundation and Expert, which allows you to discover type design, or to gain expertise after an initial training.

The TypeParis spring programme will starts on 5 April to 24 April 2027 in Menorca, Spain. It is intensive type design course with two sessions a day, each led by a tandem of two instructors, you will receive 224 hours of instruction over the course of three weeks.
We welcome both absolute beginners who can enrol at the Foundation level and typeface design enthusiasts who can register at the Expert level. This diversity is the strength of the programme. Come over and let’s start!
Foundation level: Dedicated to graphic designers who’ve never touched type design. You will learn in three weeks to create your contemporary digital typeface based on historical and calligraphic references. Submit your portfolio to be selected.
Expert Level: We propose to type designers a programme designed to enrich their know-how, strengthen their rigour, and develop their professionalism in developing and producing even more complex typeface families than the ones produced during the previous TypeParis Summer courses. Submit your typeface project being created in addition to your portfolio.
During the spring programme, our instructors chat with each other every day to keep everyone updated and make sure everyone’s learning and growing as much as they can. Our team for TypeParis27 is a fantastic bunch of folks! We’ve got Jean François Porchez (FR), the brilliant mind behind TypeParis, as well Léo Guibert (FR), Ruggero Magrì (IT), Jovana Jocić (RS), Léon Hugues (FR). They’re all going to make this type course a real treat!

A typeface is a combination of different factors that need to work together, and our methods aim to assimilate this fundamental principle through practice. Like any creative discipline, type design is highly subjective, and whilst there are important principles that we teach in detail that should be followed, there is a lot of room for one’s own personal taste.
In addition to the practical courses, you will be able to take advantage of historical resources from the city library and the TypeParis typographic resources that will be presented to you during special sessions.
We believe in daily human interaction that allows you to learn faster than just an online course. For 3 weeks, you will be in total immersion at the Convent of Sant Diego in Alaior, Menorca. It was built in 1629, since transformed into a cultural center with all the contemporary facilities such as wifi, projection, etc. The classroom is adapted to the Foundation and Expert levels, as well a room dedicated to presentation.
The island of Minorca is part of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea, 300 km from Barcelona. It is a UNESCO biosphere reserve designation since 1993, boasts a unique culture, cuisine, and language. Menorca, famous for its prehistoric megalithic monuments, has gained cultural contributions from Romans, Muslims, British, French, and Spanish, throughout its long history.
After completing Foundation level, you’ll leave the new Spring 27 course with specialised skills in designing professional, high-quality digital typefaces, lettering, and logotypes. The Expert level will further develop your skills, making you a truly professional in developing and producing complex typefaces.
Even with no experience in type design, 80% of the attendees of the (previous) Summer course have designed more than one style and all have figured out how to design a family of typefaces to bring style to design projects.

Introduction: Humanistic calligraphy, ductus, modularity, proportions, shapes, terminals, tracing techniques. Design space: weight, contrast, width. Personal project definition, basic weight, weight extensions up to Black, creative master. Personal reviews, weekly meetings, including guest critics, special presentations. Digitisation of minuscules, capitals on Glyphs. Outline quality, Bézier points, spacing technics, diacritics, punctuation. Font tech: naming, components, basics of OpenType.
