Last TPTalks of 2019! We couldn’t ask for better speakers to close TPTalks edition: Liza Enebeis and Erik van Blokland were the last guests of this summer, with Jean François Porchez as facilitator.
Liza Enebeis, current Creative Director at Studio Dumbar, is directly involved with all main projects such as the visual identity for the Royal Cabinet of Paintings Mauritshuis, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, NGO Alzheimer Nederland and Transavia airlines. She is an MA Design graduate from the Royal College of Art, London. Before joining Studio Dumbar she worked for Pentagram London for several years.
She opened her talk explaining Typeradio.org project, the podcast station she co-founded and co-hosts with Donald Beekman and the type foundry Underware since 2004. Typeradio has an archive of more than 500 interviews for download. Later on, it was time to show her work (and her colleagues’) at Studio Dumbar, an award winning international agency with a Dutch heritage, specialising in visual branding.
To end the event, Erik van Blokland took the stage. Erik is currently the head of the Type and Media master department of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK). Van Blokland consults on type design tools, logos, lettering and typefaces. He can talk endlessly about ancient digital font formats and currently dabbles in research projects on optics, digitisation, drawing and responsive type.
For many years he has focused on the technical aspects of type design and developed, among other things, the acclaimed type interpolation tools Skateboard, MutatorMath and Superpolator. Erik co-authored the Unified Font Object (UFO) specification and the W3C Web Open Font Format standard 2. His talk revolved both around his work and Type and Media recent graduated students’ work.
