TPTalks19 #1: Dan Reynolds + Nick Misani

First TPTalks of 2019! It felt good to meet all up at Le Tank again. TypeParis was already off to a good start, and we were very excited to hear from our first two speakers: Dan Reynolds and Nick Misani.

Dan Reynolds came the same Thursday from Berlin, where he lives and works as a type designer. Last January, Dan passed his doctoral examinations at the Braunschweig University of Art with a research project about the distribution of sans serif type designs in foundries from Germany’s imperial era.

We were truly interested in how does this investigation influenced on his current practical work as a type designer and vice versa. His talk focused on German-speaking foundries during the 19th century, explaining down to the last detail the main changes that German typefounding suffered at the turn of the century.

Later on it was Nick Misani’s turn. Nick is an Italian freelance designer specialized in illustrative lettering with a historical flair. He has just moved from New York to Europe and luckily it seems he has chosen Paris to settle down. We cannot be happier!

We were introduced to his career from the scratch. He showed us his first lettering works, how he managed to start working at Louise Fili’s and how much she influenced on him. It was extremely interesting to discover step by step how he works to create his popular Fauxsaics, recognized internationally.
