Fillmore
Fillmore is a variable serif font with 8 different weights. The original brief that I had was to create a font for Kitsuné Musique, a French electronic/indie pop rock music record label. This Parisian Label first started its music activity by releasing hand-picked curation of international emerging/upcoming artists as well as commissioning remixes with acclaimed producers and DJs. The music genre is mostly french-house, disco, tech-funk.
With that, I took a look at old goodies/typefaces from the 70’s era for my references and inspiration to kick off the project. I want to express the groovy and cheerful spirit of the music to the shape of the letterforms.
The main characteristics of the typeface are soft and smooth round shapes with a square structure, along with a heavy bell bottom that is applied for the display weight. Fillmore was designed to be used as a display typeface that can be used to achieve more human and analog feeling.
The 6-week type design programme that you’ve been waiting for starts on 2 June and ends 10 July 2026.
Open to all Our summer programme is in English and covers typeface design and calligraphy techniques, type history, and software practices. Whether you’re a design pro or just curious about type design, you can learn all about it in a relatively short amount of time.
