Bergteken

Those who are unfamiliar with the construction of blackletters can find reading old manuscripts and books challenging — even if it is set in a language they are familiar with. Bergteken is a hybrid typeface designed to let the untrained eye read text set in blackletters with the ease of letterforms they are familiar with.

The skeleton of the Bergteken family combines blackletter with humanistic elements. Narrow, angular strokes from blackletters with round shapes and sturdy serifs from roman letters. The result is a fluid family that is less strict than its historic references from the 14th – 15th century.

Bergteken consists of five weights ranging from regular to extra bold, with alternate drop caps for text decoration. Bergteken regular is low in contrast and works well for setting text in small sizes. The bold weights have even less contrast than the regular weight and are suitable for headings.
