Guimart

I bought my first camera in Hamburg a few years ago to take pictures of the city. At night, the artificial lights revealed unseen details that we would miss during the day. Through photography, I developed an appreciation for what makes a city more than just buildings and people. I love discovering hidden corners and unusual architecture.

Living in Paris for a long time makes it hard to notice things that are right in front of you all the time. Things that are so blend in the city that you assume it's common and not worth to look at. One of the things that is very (very) common in Paris is taking the metroline: it's an everyday routine for most parisians that go to work. As for me, I have a different and more carefree approach to the metro. I don't need to take the metro to work so I enjoy taking it to see friends, have fun, going out or wandering in the city while taking pictures.
A few years ago I came to a realization when going out from a station (named Cité) in the city center. The environment, buildings and flower shops make the place really nice to stop-by. That's where I had a deeper look a the station entrance.

Guimart is a serif typeface both expressive and classic. The typeface is inspired by the Metropolitain sign made by the Art Nouveau architect Hector Guimard for Paris’ Metro, circa 1900. The expressiveness of the typeface is the result of round counters, spikes serif and tappered strokes: it induces organic movements signature of the Guimard style. The display typeface is an heritage of the top heavy contrast that can be seen on the sign. The combination of styles and alternates glyphs makes the typeface versatile and fun to play with.
