A look at how typography is shaping—and being shaped by—the cultural, technological, and creative shifts defining our era. From AI to accessibility, this talk explores the evolving role of type as both a mirror and engine of change.
Charles Nix, Senior Executive Creative Director, Monotype. Charles Nix is a designer, typographer, and educator with a lifelong passion for type. The son of a printer, he studied at The Cooper Union and has taught typography for over two decades, including as Chair of Communication Design at Parsons. At Monotype, he has led the design of influential typefaces such as Helvetica Now, Ambiguity, Hope Sans, and Walbaum. For Charles, typography is more than a craft—it has shaped civilization for over 500 years. He believes that the form of language profoundly impacts meaning, with type wielding subtle psychological power to entertain, persuade, and ultimately shape the way we think and communicate.
